10 Things We Bet You Didn’t Know About ELON MUSK

So Elon Musk has probably been the talk of the town lately, right? The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and Chairman of SolarCity has turned the world into a frenzy with his crazy ideas. The multi-billionaire has recently made public his desire to make humans an Inter-Planetary species and his company SpaceX is working towards a rocket named as “B.F.R” which will be able to carry people to Mars. So today’s article is about some interesting facts about this great man. Here are 10 things that you didn’t know about Elon Musk.

#10 He coded his first game aged 12 and sold it for $500, basically making him a prodigy. The game was named as Blastar and is available online, so you can play it even today. Much like Bill Gates, Elon started coding since he was very young. A bibliophile, Musk used to read books for 5 hours a day during his childhood. He quickly assimilated knowledge. One of the fun facts was that he cured his own fear of the dark by reading that darkness is a mere absence of photons.

#09 When Musk was at college, he fed himself for less than $1 a day. Musk might have come from a reasonably fortunate background but he used to live on almost nothing while he was studying. Something that you might not know that while in college to make some money and pay for college, he had his best friend turned their house into a nightclub. They rented a 10 bedroom house and threw massive house parties on the weekend. Sometimes even 500 people would show up and they made $5 per person. While his friend made sure that that the party was lit, Musk remained sober to keep things under control.

#08 Musk dropped off his applied Physics Ph.D. course just after two days to pursue his entrepreneurial visions. After completing two degrees in both Physics and Economics Musk enrolled himself on a Ph.D. course at Stanford University in 1995 when he was 24. After two days he got bored and started a business with his brother named zip2. He borrowed $28,000 from his father and funded a software company designed as a city guide for newspaper publishers. Just a couple of years later he sold it for $22 million dollars.

#07 Musk bought a McLaren F1 and didn’t insure it and then wrote it off. He bought it in 1999 when he was 28 years old for $1,000,000 dollars. Since he couldn’t manage to get an insurance he crashed it.

See Elon Musk talk about his car crash incident:

He also owns a 1977 Lotus, straight from the Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. He bought the car at auction in 2013 for nearly 1 million dollars and intends to convert it into a submarine as a pet project.

#06 Robert Downey Jr. modeled his Tony Stark character on Musk. According to Downey Jr. and the franchise’s director, Tony Stark’s character was just more or less a flamboyant version of Elon Musk. Musk even made a small cameo in the movie Iron Man 2 as a thank you for letting Downey Jr. pick his brain.

#05 Musk was a co-founder and member of PayPal. After his zip2 success, it didn’t take Elon much time to pick his next target, the banking industry. So he started X.com. X.com and PayPal went head to head for a couple of years until they decided to join forces. Unfortunately, though he was ousted from his CEO position in 2000 because of leadership disagreements. When they sold PayPal his cut was $165 million dollars.

#04 His basic Tesla salary is $1 a year.

#03 Elon Musk has said that he wants to die on Mars and not Earth. Musk’s SpaceX is planning an ambitious mission to Mars with a view to making our lives inter-planetary. His main goal is to drop the price for inter-planetary travel.

#02 Musk thinks that A.I is the most severe threat to our survival. He is also building super-charging stations all over America at the moment, where you can charge your Tesla cars for free.

#01 Musk has three nationalities. Born in South Africa, he moved to Canada when he was 19 years old and then became an American citizen in 2002. He has described himself as passionately patriotic to his adopted country.
